First-year

Any applicant who has never attended college as a full-time, degree-seeking student is considered a new first-time student. New first-time applicants must show proof of graduation from high school, or the equivalent, prior to enrollment at Spelman College.

Spelman College has suspended the standardized testing requirement for students applying for the class of 2025. This policy applies to all new first-time application cycles, including early decision, early notification and regular decision. Students who choose to apply to Spelman without test scores will not be disadvantaged in the review process. We understand that some students will still have access to standardized tests and would like for their scores to be considered. For these applicants, we will continue to accept SAT and ACT scores and review them as part of our holistic application review.

Transfer

A transfer applicant has completed a high school diploma, or its equivalent, and has attended another college for at least one term as a degree-seeking student. Transfer admission to Spelman is selective and students applying must have earned fewer than 60 semester hours or the equivalent at their previous institutions. Applicants must be in good standing and eligible to return to their previous institutions. Students with fewer than one year of attempted college credits as a full-time student (30 earned semester hours or the equivalent) must meet new first-time applicant eligibility as well.
